The history of the presidency in Russia is very short. The presidency in Russia started in 1991. In 1991, the office was briefly known as the president of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic until 25 December 1991.
The head of state of the Russian Federation and the head of the commander-in-chief of the Russian armed force are handled by the President. President has the most power in the whole country. But According to the current 1993 Constitution of Russia, “the president of Russia is not a part of the Government of Russia, which exercises executive power”. If the president is unable to fulfill his/her duties, their power is temporarily shifted to the Prime minister.
His full name is Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Vladimir Putin is Russia’s one of the big and important figures. He was born on 7th October 1952 in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). He grew up with his family in a communal apartment, attending the local grammar and high schools. His father and mother were factory foremen.
He was reared as the only child because his siblings, who were born in the 1930s died before he was born. One brother died as an infant and the other died of diphtheria during World War ll.
Journey up to the President
After he graduated from Leningrad State University, Putin join KGB (Main security agency for the Soviet Union) as an intelligence officer in 1975 but it collapsed in 1991 due to the rise of the presidential candidate and he was appointed as the Prime minister in 1999 after joining the first President (Boris Yeltsin). Putin became the second President from 1999 to 2008 but he was again appointed as the Prime minister after losing the presidency, but he again became the 4th president from 7th May 2012 to up to now. His rule is characterized by centralization of power, suppression of dissent, and assertion of Russian military power.
